Perhaps you’ve lost a pet that you couldn’t have loved more. An animal that was many things to you; a confidant, an emotional support, a silly playmate. Maybe this was a new experience and the joy of it took you by surprise. It happened to me too.
This is the second Memento Mori that I’ve drawn. They are a little difficult to work on. I admit to some tears. Memento Mori pieces were very common long ago, often as embroidered samplers. So I have used a style that I think is reminiscent of those hand stitched pieces, showing my hand with the pencil work, including the weeping willows arching over the monument, adding the outer border.
Here in the night is the monument to the very special dog. There are grasses and wild flowers nearby with the small town that loved her in the background. Birds hold vigil. Above is a meteor shower. You will agree that fireworks are appropriate.
